For years, children have enjoyed spending hours coloring in their free time. Coloring books and blank pieces of paper allow your child to delight in their coloring endeavors. Parents love to see the masterpieces that their children create while coloring! Unfortunately, sometimes coloring doesn’t always stay on the paper where it belongs. Children have been coloring on walls, furniture, and carpet for years. If your child colors on your carpet how on earth do you get it out? Steam Magic Carpet Cleaning has gathered various methods for you to try out if you find crayons on your carpet.
Liquid Dish Soap to Get Rid of Crayon Marks on Carpet
The first step is to scrape away the crayon with a dull knife. A butter knife is the optimal tool for this step. If the crayon is soft, it will not be easy to scrape. Take an ice cube, place it in a plastic bag, and hold if to the affected area of your carpet. Once you have let the crayon harden try again to scrap away the excess crayon. Next mix ¼ teaspoon of liquid dish soap with 1 cup of warm water. Test the solution on a small, inconspicuous area of carpet. Use a clean, wet cloth to sponge the solution onto the carpet. Allow the solution to set for one minute. If you see discoloration then use a different method. After you have tested the solution and found it appropriate for your carpet, go to the affected area. Pour the solution onto the affected area. Let the solution sit for at least five minutes. After the solution has set, use a clean, dry cloth and begin blotting the area. Keep blotting until the crayon is removed. When you are done removing the crayon stain, blot the area with a clean, wet cloth until the entire solution is all the way out of your carpet.
Use Iron to Remove Crayon Stains from Carpet
Plug your iron in and turn it on a low setting. You will want to test the iron out in an inconspicuous area. Some carpets have fibers that will melt at a low temperature. If your carpet withstands the heat without a problem, continue this method. Cover the affected area with a clean white cloth. Using the tip of the iron, press the cloth into the stained area. The heat of the iron should transfer the wax from the crayon onto the cloth. You may need to use an additional cloth if the crayon stain covers a large area of your carpet.
Commercial Carpet Cleaner to Get Crayon Out of Carpet
As with the liquid dish soap method, the first step here is to scrape away the crayon with a dull knife. Refer to the directions listed above if the crayon is soft and not easy to scrape off of your carpet. Once you have removed as much crayon as you can, get your carpet cleaner ready. You will want to make sure that you purchase a carpet cleaner that is safe for the fabric of your carpet. Spray the affected area with the carpet cleaner. Follow the recommended time on the carpet cleaning bottle to let the carpet cleaner set onto your stain. After the cleaner has set, use a clean, dry cloth to blot the crayon until it is removed. If your stain a extra stubborn, you may need to repeat the process more than once.
