How Do You Get Rust Stains Out of Grout?
Powder Laundry Detergent: Powder laundry detergent is a gently product that can cut through rust stains. Moderately sprinkle a layer of powder laundry detergent after you lightly dampen the area. Let the detergent loosen the rust for about 5-10 minutes. With a soft-bristle brush or a sponge, work the rust stain with circular motions and afterwards, rinse with warm water. Always finish with the warm water rinse but repeat as needed.
Liquid Dish Detergent: With a mild liquid dish detergent, rust stains can be easily removed safely from grout. Make sure it is well blended as you combine together 20 drops of mild dish soap and a cup of water in a spray bottle. With a sponge or soft-bristle brush, scrub the residual rust away. Hydrogen Peroxide: Hydrogen peroxide is effective and does not cause any damage to the grout and typically works well to remove the rust stains. Combined 1 cup water and 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide and mix well in a squirt bottle. As you scrub with a soft bristled brush in circular scrub patterns, spray the solution directly on the rust stain. Use warm water to rinse the rust runoff and lingering solution from the surface once you have removed the rust successfully. Also, this solution is effective against mold and mildew stains. Perform a patch test to ensure the color will not be compromised, please note hydrogen peroxide is a lightening agent and has the potential to lighten your color grout. Generally, there is little to worry about with the diluted hydrogen peroxide.
