Pet accidents happen, especially when you are training the pups. When it comes to pet stains, they can be challenging to remove, but simpler if you treat them immediately. Today, we at Steam Magic Carpet Cleaning would like to offer some steps to remove pet stains from your San Diego home’s carpets.
Carpet Pet Stain Remover Steps
1) Clear the Bulk of the Pet Waste. If the carpet stain is pee, use paper towels to sop up as much liquid as possible. If the issue is poop, use paper towels to careful pick the bulk up and toss it into a bag for easy disposal. Be sure to wear gloves. Runny poo can be picked up using an old spatula or putty knife to scoop it up.
2) Carpet Cleaner Solution. In a squirt bottle, mix together 3 tablespoons of Oxi-Clean, a few drops of mild dish soap, and 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide with warm water in your first spray bottle. Make sure it is mixed well.
3) Pet Stain Removal. Tackling the stain is the next step since you want to make sure to remove odors and stain.
Spray – Liberally spray the prepared solution on the stain, being mindful to not oversaturate. Let the solution soak into the fibers for 5-10 minutes.
Blot – Blotting carefully, use a clean rag to sop up the moisture and stain. Never scrub or rub. To prevent the stain from spreading into other carpet fibers, work from the outside of the stain, inward. If you have to, keep blotting until your rag is wet and use more than one. With a clean surface to pick up the stain, continue working the stain out. Using clean, cold water, rinse the area well.
Prevent Recurring Stain. Prevent reappearing staining if the stain runs deep by using bristle brush to scrub the spot of the stain until you see soap suds lifting out of the carpet. Keep blotting with the wet rag and soapy water and continue scrubbing until you’re sure the stain is removed, even if you don’t see soap suds.
Dry – Use a clean, dry rag or towel to remove as much of the excess moisture as possible. If necessary, place another dry towel and place books or weights on top of it for a few hours so it can pull up the moisture.
Deodorize – Deodorize the area, which doesn’t just benefit you it, but it can significantly reduce your risk of your pet having an accident in the same spot. Until its noticeably wet, spray distilled white vinegar from a spray bottle. Let it breakdown the odor molecules for 10 minutes and blot to dry the area.
Soak – Covering it from edge to edge, simply sprinkle baking soda over the area. Let it sit for 12 hours.
4) Vacuum Carpet. You should notice it crystallize and perhaps turn color when the baking soda is completely dry, which is a good sign. From here, simply vacuum the area slowly and in multiple directions.
